THE FACE OF THE CITY

THE FACE OF THE CITYA few weeks before the International Women’s Day on 8th March, United Colors of Benetton is launching a new global campaign focusing on ethnic diversity called “The Face of the City”.

In english, there is a proverb which says “The old pipe gives the sweetest smoke”. Benetton in focusing on diversity and ethnic is using the codes which made the brand name famous in the 70’s. We are again digging in the history of the brand: Nothing new, nothing creative… Continue reading

LUXURY A PARADOX !

luxuryparadoxThe modern luxury industry rests on a paradox-but is thriving nonetheless. At the Trang Tien Ptaza shopping mall in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, some days you have couples in wedding dress and costume who come and pose for photos in front of the fashion brand shop windows like Salvator Ferragamo, Louis Vuitton and/or Gucci offering the sort of backdrop for romance more usually provided by the sea or the mountains. The women are not wearing Ferragamo Vara pumps’ with their distinctive bows, or toting Vuitton subtly monogrammed handbags. Continue reading

ALEX’TRAORDINAIRY MABILLE

MABILLEAlexis Mabille fights against the downgrading of Haute Couture by capturing the Haute Couture and claims to represent the vanguard. Alexis is in a radically stitching process.

Instead of increasing desire in artificially organising the rareness at a time where reproduction has become normal, Alexis chooses to inundate the market in manufacturing Haute Couture.

His freedom in creation is also due to his family team who avoids him to fight with internal conflicts and enables him to focus on his work. Each season, he goes higher and higher and touched our heart as his talent blows up.

FRANCK SORBIER

SORBIER10Franck Sorbier is not just Fashion, it is a performance of art. Many dancers swirled to a hypnotic drum at the Guimet Museum of Asian art.
Taking its inspiration from Rodin’s sand colours of the Khmer dancers, The King and I, an exhibition on 2,000 years of Asian theatre, and an ancient legend about a shepherd falling in love with a star, it presents an exotic, romantic fairy-tale.

The named ‘Celestial’ Lovers reworks the age-old story of a princess and a pauper, using a variety of styles to show the theme’s universality. Dresses, made of a patchwork of colours and reminiscent of Tinkerbell .
Dresses, a one-shoulder gown, with pleated silk covered with asia calligraphy and watercolours like sexuel obsession.
The freedom to love and a timeless story, a theme that he considers as the big subject of the history of humanity.

JULIEN FOURNIÉ PARIS 2016

JULIEN FOURNIÉ CANALJulien Fournié had converted the Oratoire du Louvre into a vessel to present us the Spring-Summer 2016 collection.

On a fictional shore the couturier presented an elegant collection with print on white linen representing tropical flowers. Fournié has chosen the palette of oceanic rainforest fruits and blossoms as colors for this collection.

On the catwalk the models looked like those actress of the 1960’s and 1970’s with lioned head like Farrah Fawcett in the Charlie’s Angels. They were wearing denim pieces on their tropical island.

Jacquards and 3D embroidery also made this fashion statement contemporary. As usual it was a stunning and standing ovation.

PARIS FASHION GEEK !

PFWRevolution in the French Fédération of Couture, it has upgraded its website and opened more to the digital world. It is a blow of modernity, they are finally launching new digital tools, an Application iphone, and broadcast on the social media like twitter etc… It looks like a train which is always late.

It is strange to start a new “Has Been” strategy. What have they done all those years ! Instagramme, Twitter… are a must to have. However what about the Dark Net, and other new tools to broadcast your information. You said “Has Been”, I would dare to say: “Dead”.

By the way do not forget to add images as we are no more in the 1990’s when we could only have text. To pay an application € 50 000, when you can have the same application for € 5 000. No wonder why the Fédération has no money for promoting new designers, the future talents.

Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man’s original virtue. It is through disobedience that progress has been made, through disobedience and through rebellion (Oscar Wild)

FOR YOUR BAG ONLY

SACAnalysts have projected that menswear would become a very lucrative segment of the fashion industry based partly on the buying power that men possess. Today, volumes have been growing at 5% per annum, yet the amount spent per unit has been increasing by 10% a year, which means that men are spending more on each bag they are purchasing.

“Man Bags,” which are considered to be totes, duffels, clutches, backpacks, messenger and bowling bags, represent 1 in 5 of all sales in the global luxury handbag market. The aggregate value of men’s bags sales have doubled with men now spending over $7 billion on luxury bags. Continue reading
