RAFFLE SIMONS

SIMONSThe man, who did not like women, or the Calvinist of Fashion has just been nominated at Calvin Klein as Artistic Director. The press release does not mention the amount of the transaction.

For a little while, Raf Simons’ name was stated to replace Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli, who respectively were in charge of Women and Men design at Calvin Klein’s.

Raf Simons, who maltreated the Dior brand when he was the Dior designer, would be more successful with the American brand where the stakes are less important. He might do like Anne Valérie Hash: be bad in Haute Couture and good in Ready-to-Wear.

FASHION ICONS OF THE 1950s

50Women’s fashion of the 1950s reflected a complicated mix of conservatism and glamor. Women who had lived through the privations of the Great Depression and World War II were now able to afford new styles and embraced them all, from the elegance of grand, sweeping skirts to shorts and trousers.

Despite the mature, conservative look of major designers, a new feeling for casual attire crept onto the scene, as women increasingly began to wear pants, shorts, sportswear, and shoulder-revealing sundresses.

Christian Dior introduced the New Look in 1947. With its tight cinched waist, billowing skirt, and pronounced bust line, the New Look recalled historic styles of the mid-19th century and set the tone for the next decade. Continue reading

DO IT YOURSELF

FAIT MAIN“Clothing must reflect the way we feel, and we must all feel free to express ourselves.” Gucci has explained how the fashion label’s new DIY service, allowing customers to personalise some of the brand’s products, was inspired by Creative Director Alessandro Michele.

The new project premiered on 25 May at the brand’s Milan flagship store and will be rolled out to other boutiques worldwide. A customisable version of the Dionysus bag was chosen to introduce it, but the service will be extended later to the Ace sneakers and the Princetown shoes, as well as to some items of men’s and woman’s clothing and to the ‘Made to Measure’ programme, dedicated to menswear. AS A BREATH OF BLACK MAGIC IN CANNES …

CANALFOURNIERChinese superstar and singer Li Yuchun (aka known as Chris Lee) walked on the red carpet at the Cannes International Film Festival. She was dressed in a spectacular Couture black gown designed by Julien Fournié to watch the latest Steven Spielberg film.

Her appearance was like Black Magic on the red carpet. The overall made of a black leather full length skirt and of a bodice looking like a tuxedo were outstanding and all eyes were on her.

The face end of Li Yuchun is enhanced by a setting very light nude beauty. A simple black line of eyeliner emphasized her delicate cat eyes. His mouth is just illuminated with a glossy texture that gives a little more volume to lips. Continue reading
