SHOES OR PAIN !

SHOES2The first time I have seen “Shoes: Pleasure and Pain at the Victoria and Albert Museum (which runs until 31st January 2016) I left shaking my head at the apparently chaotic jumble of footwear crammed into a small-ish boudoir of an area; followed by a much bigger space upstairs devoted to people with no particular taste but an obsession in collecting smart shoes or endless pairs of sneakers.

The first pair is by Vivienne Westwood, made famous by a fall: Naomi Campbell tumbled on the catwalk when wearing them back in 1993. The ‘bath clogs’ came from a historic Egyptian hammam – a smart way for high society bathers to raise themselves above the water slewing across the floor. Continue reading

SILLY FASHION STUDENT

BLONDESELLY2As key Opinion Leaders, when the times of the collections come, we ask for invitations to the shows. Unfortunately we have been receiving for the last 6 years the same formated email from “students” having an internship at LVMH. Besides those emails are full of mistakes.

We wonder why such companies employ qualified people and ask students to do their jobs. Maybe those communication Managers are not paid enough to fulfill their job and it is a way to claim for a better salary. besides those groups try to make us believe that they invest 100% of their benefits in France. In fact, the sad reality it is that they employ stagiaires to do the jobs to avoid recruiting qualified employees.

If it carries on like that, we will soon see ‘stagiaires’ replacing models, staff, General Manager and so on….. It is true that LVMH cannot really be considered Continue reading

HERMES REAL LUXURY

Hermes3French luxury goods maker Hermès posted a 20 percent rise in first-half operating income in line with expectations, helped by strong tourist demand in Japan, the United States and Europe.

The brand known for its silk scarves and Birkin bags costing several thousand euros reiterated on Friday that its operating margin for the full year would be lower than in 2014 due to currency fluctuations.

As expected, Hermès kept its medium-term goal of increasing annual sales at constant exchange rates by 8 percent.

Half-year results from other luxury companies such as LVMH and Gucci owner Kering published last month have been stronger than expected, driven in part by Asian shoppers in big European Continue reading

FENDI RESORT 2016

A FAKE IS BORN

ImpressionI think it was Coco Chanel who used to say if you’re original, be ready to be copied. It is a shame to see Sephora windows filled with Paco Rabanne perfumes which is a mix of Cartier plus Cartier! Merely a copy of Cartier’s design. I love the style. I love the story, but I hate the xerox.

Copiers go fast. Marc Ange, the copyist did “La Bergère et le Bouc” but nobody have never heard from it !!! However he knows Cartier’s know-how and design and he has only copied Cartier’s design for the new Paco Rabanne Perfume. Continue reading

KRISTEN STEWART

1E62CDF6Kristen Stewart looked like a retro ’50s fashionista while filming an untitled Woody Allen project in Los Angeles. In the same time Kristen Stewart, who has appeared in campaigns for Chanel and is regularly front-row at its shows, is to appear in a film being made for the French house’s next Métiers d’Arts show, scheduled for Dec. 1 in Rome.

Sitting in the director’s chair, Karl Lagerfeld wrapped the two-day shoot at Luc Besson’s studio in Paris last month, and conceived the intriguing storyline: A fictional, behind-the-scenes look at a yet-to-be-made biopic about founder Gabrielle Chanel.

Lagerfeld said Stewart, best known for the “Twilight” series and her recent turn in Continue reading

KARLY LOYCE AT CÉLINE

CELINEAn unknown beauty being plucked from obscurity to walk designer runways is a fashion tale as old as time. But when applied to the new face of Céline’s Fall 2015 campaign, Martinique’s own Karly Loyce, it seems like a story we’ve never heard the likes of before.

The new fashionable model of Céline after Daria Werbow and Joan Didion is Karly Loyce, a young student in biology coming form La Martinique.

She was spotted by www.theinfliuencer.info and the new brand creative director at her first catwalk. La Martiniquaise who will represent the brand during the Fall/Winter 2015 campaign is photographed by Juergen Teller. Continue reading

CHINA & LUXURY THE END OF A LOVE STORY

LUXECHINOISChinese tourists have been spending record amounts on luxury goods this year, VAT-refund company Global Blue said in a report published in April. For European destinations, the weak euro has been a big draw.

More than 100 million Chinese travel abroad every year, buying more luxury goods than any other nation. Shopping for the perfumes and designer clothes that can cost them twice as much at home is a major travel incentive.

However China has just devalued its currency by 2 percent after a run of poor economic data – a move some economists think Continue reading

FRANCK SORBIER ‘THE DREAMER’

dreamerFranck Sorbier’s fashion shows are always a exceptional and magic moment. In 2013, the poet, Franck Sorbier, has choosen to reinterpret the tale of “Peau d’Ane”. There is some Magic in the Telling … “Discovering the Dreamer of Franck Sorbier”.

Haute Couture is a land that imagination forgot. Many will speak of it as legend or as fantasy or even as mythology. And that is perfectly fine. We have no objection. However, Haute Couture is a real fact of life.

And, as you cross the Bridge of Belief, as you imagine yourself lifting out of the logic and out of the reason of the consensus reality, moving beyond time and space and beyond time-space, you can find that that land is and has been forgotten by the imagination. Continue reading

STRUGGLE FOR LIFE IN GERMANY

KARLNews from the luxury sector in Germany haven’t been very glamorous lately. To the joy of international companies such as Hermès and LVMH, the rich and famous are usually not discouraged by economic downturns, so why are some German companies having such a hard time?
Next to internal disputes and challenges, German designer brands seem to be having major difficulties keeping up with the fast-evolving nature of their industry.

Womenswear group Escada has had, for example, a good run after it welcomed new investor Megha Mittal, but the company has faced severe issues on an executive level. Its latest CEO Glenn McMahon stepped down in July after seven months of tenure, following the resignation of Continue reading

SPORTSWEAR THE FUTURE OF FASHION

luxesportwearThe reality is that people still love well-made clothing, but, ideally, clothing they can actually live in. A recent article on Business of Fashion reflects on this phenomenon, citing an increasing fondness for so-called “streetwear” brands as evidence. But in finding the term “streetwear” demeaning and inadequate for labels like Public School and Hood by Air, the fashion editor of the Influencer, Julia, hails it as “luxury sportswear.” Continue reading
