During 50 years, Hélène Rochas, nicknamed “the sophisticated panther” by the Amercian press, ran the fashion label and fragrances founded by her husband.
This Grande Dame embodied elegance to the French and was one of the iconic figures of fashion since 1940. Her Haute Couture clothes will be sold at an auction on May 12th, in Paris. With nearly 200 clothes including 80% of creation of Yves Saint Laurent, most of these Haute Couture clothes were the subject of publications and exhibitions, including at the Palais Galliera, the fashion museum of Paris. Former Gibo, for some time now renamed Onward Luxury Group, has acquired Paris-Moreau, one of the brands of handbags and luggage of the oldest luxury of France, for an undisclosed amount. Italian fashion house Valentino, owned by Qatar’s Mayhoola for Investments, has offered 500 million euros (400.42 million pounds) to buy Balmain.
The French fashion house, led by artistic director Olivier Rousteing, has also received offers from a Chinese group and an American investor.
Created in 1945 by fashion designer Pierre Balmain, the house has grown remarkably under the leadership of Olivier Rousteing, its artistic director since 2011.
At the last Paris Fashion Week, Kendall Jenner modeled for the brand promoted it and was the top model of the common collection with H&M.

Anthony Vaccarello succeeds to Hedi Slimane at Yves Saint Laurent. Anthony Vaccarello, most recently the creative director of Versus Versace, has been nominated the new creative director of Yves Saint Laurent.
Mr. Vaccarello, a 36-year-old Italian-Belgian designer, succeeds to Hedi Slimane, whose long-rumored departure from Yves Saint Laurent, owned by the Paris-based group Kering, was made official on Friday. The president and chief executive of Yves Saint Laurent, stated: “His modern, pure aesthetic is the perfect fit for the maison.”
Mr. Vaccarello founded his own brand, in 2009, but will suspend that line to “devote himself fully to Saint Laurent,” according to a spokesman for the brand. He will be responsible for women’s wear, men’s wear, the couture line revived by Mr. Slimane and the image of the brand.

Hedi Slimane leaves St Laurent. The Kering group and Hedi Slimane did not come to any agreement on his compensation. He will leave the fashion house before the next fashion shows. The current rumors about his imminent arrival at Scaparelli’s has not been yet confirmed.
Hedi Slimane, born in July 5, 1968, is a French photographer and fashion designer. From 2000 to 2007, he held the position of creative director for Dior Homme (the menswear line of Christian Dior).
In 1996, Pierre Bergé installed Slimane in the position of ready-to-wear director of men’s collections at Yves Saint Laurent and later he became artistic director. Continue reading

Since Yiqing Yin left his role as Leonard Creative Director at the end of 2015, the role remained empty until now. Following Yin’s departure, Leonard took the time to work alone in his Parisian studio. In May 2016, Leonard began priming stylist Christine Phung to take over as the new Creative Director of the House.

The cloche hat is a fitted, bell-shaped hat that was popular during the 1920s, but was first founded in 1908 and continued to be popular until 1933. Cloche is the French word for “bell”.
Cloche hats were usually made of felt so that they conformed to the head. The hat was typically designed to be worn low on the forehead, with the wearer’s eyes only slightly below the brim. By 1928/29, it became fashionable to turn the brims on cloche hats upwards. This style remained prevalent throughout the early 1930s until the cloche hat became obsolete around 1933/34. The luxury Hermes cie has declared a net profit for one billion euro in 2015 and has slightly increased its margin by to 31.8%. Early February the leather-saddle company had already released its annual turnover, which reached 4.84 billion euros in sales, up 8.1% at constant exchange rates.
Axel Dumas, the president, said the operating margin “increased to 31.8% of sales” (against 31.5% last year) “despite a difficult global environment, whether the situation in Hong Kong, Macao or the terrorist attacks in Paris. “
Hermes has hired nearly 500 people last year, “including 400 in France, mainly in manufacturing and sales teams.” End of 2015 it employed a total of 12,244 people, including 7,461 in France. Richemont’s Chief Executive, Bernard Fornas, has announced that he would be retiring from the luxury goods company at the end of March. The Frenchman, who previously led the Richemont’s giant Cartier jewelry business, has been joint head with Richard Lepeu since April 2013. Mr. Lepeu will now become the sole Chief Executive of Richemont, which also owns upmarket Swiss watchmakers IWC, Piaget and Jaeger-LeCoultre.
Mr. Fornas who was born in 1947 and who run an executive search company avenue Matignon before leading Richemont, will also leave his positions on the senior executive and management committees at Geneva-based Richemont. However he will remain a non-executive director. He will be replaced on the senior executive committee by current Cartier CEO, Cyrille Vigneron. Continue reading
