FETISH CHIC

ALEJust when you thought that you had seen it all on the catwalks, here comes a new trend, and in this case a rather catwalk challenging one for models… fetishes & bondage!

Now, we all know that music has a huge impact on fashion and ‘vice’ versa. As arts, they both feed from each other. Have you seen the latest video of Rihanna: ‘S&M’ yet? Seen Gaga’s latest shoes?

Well fashion seems to have also taken its fetish toys out of the secret drawer and it is now proudly and unapologetically preaching its love affair with fetishes.

From the very upper crust of fashion: Louis Vuitton, Herve Leger, and so on… to the trendy “cool kids” from London, to Continue reading

VICTOR & ROLF

CANAL2Since their return to Haute Couture, the designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren have presented a pink, plastic and black pebble-esque fabric collection. To add to their list of eccentric couture themes, the duo came up with a blooming flower garden this season. Imagine a gorgeous garden drenched with color from early Spring to the first frost of Autumn. A daydream, you say?

Among the twenty dresses the designers produced, they increasingly added color to a base print of an ink blue flower outline. Those who recall the pairs’ tulle topiary ready-to-wear show could see this couture collection as a high-end extrapolation of that same concept.

Because flowers bloom at varying times of the year, and some plants are annual, dying each Winter, the design of flower gardens take into consideration a sequence of bloom and even of consistent color combinations, through varying seasons.

Dress came embellished with giant stalks of wheat and sometimes veiled in outsized floral lace or whorls of paper flowers. It is fashion Haute couture or not ? Continue reading

FABULOUS MARNI

MARNI2015Launched in 1994, Marni is a luxury brand favored by a discerning coterie of international women who are curious and sophisticated: not necessarily fashion-driven, but with a strong identity and a personal vision. The Marni woman is hard to pinpoint. Elusive and arty, she likes to play with forms, prints, textures and colors. Marni is in fact, essentially, a mindset: slightly out of the schemes and subtly subversive. It’s a quirky, unpredictable visual language: graphic, rigorous. Consuelo Castiglioni is the author.

The Swiss-born designer conveys her personal sense of elegance and experimental approach to materials and colors, her unique flair for mixing prints and shapes in collections that are at once irreverent and emotional, with an eclectic yet coherent Continue reading

MABILLE CANAL1Alexis Mabille’s catwalk at the Hotel Salomon de Rotschild signed a very chic, glamour and feminine collection and please do not pay attention to the rumor on internet about his cooperation with the H&M group.

For the Spring/Summer 2015 presentation, Alexis Mabille has created a sexy collection celebrating Desire and playing with the sensuality of the female body thanks to cuts well mastered. This collection expresses “”freshness, fluidity, relaxation, nonchalance of a modern and assumed, and terribly French liberated woman.”

OSKLEN NY

osklenFor the Spring/Summer 2015 Osklen collection, designer Oskar Mestavaht immersed himself in an entire museum. He spent four days at Inhotim, the outdoor contemporary art museum in Brumadinho, Brazil, that marries nature, art, architecture, and beauty.

This inspiration resulted in a beautiful texturized collection complete with colors derived from vegetable-based dyes and intricately woven textiles. Some of his inspiration came through quite literally: Rigid plastic skirts suggested the museum’s modern architecture, while fluid dresses in eye-catching florals referenced the lush foliage. Styled with half-moon flower necklaces and comfy sneakers, the vibe was cute and youthful with a little bohemian flavor.

Osklen is a Brazilian fashion designer based on harmonization of contrasts, in which urban and nature, organic and technological live together.

During the first ten years the influence of sports in the brand was Continue reading

ECCENTRIC GUCCI

Gucci, Ready to Wear Spring Summer 2015 Collection in Milan

Last Wednesday, the Gucci show launched the Milan Fashion Week. The designer Frida Giannini presented an Eccentric Hippy baba cool collection influenced from the 1970’s and really far from what we were due to expect.

Never forgets that quality is not in the fabric but also in the design. The Gucci’s brand ambassador, Charlotte Casiraghi as well as the face of Gucci’s newly launched cosmetics line and Kate Moss sat front row.

There is no question that the 70s roots of this show ran long and deep. But Giannini seemed to really be trying to bring her beloved decade forward. She did this mostly in her chosen proportions, by cropping her bell bottom boyfriend pants, inserting sexy broderie anglaise into her denim day dresses, and deciding to go with above-the-knee cocktail dresses (instead of a more traditional maxi) for her printed bead embellished silk numbers. In this way she was able to give a feather light fashion face-lift to all the hallmark looks that have a good 40 years on them.
