LUXURY A PARADOX !

luxuryparadoxThe modern luxury industry rests on a paradox-but is thriving nonetheless. At the Trang Tien Ptaza shopping mall in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, some days you have couples in wedding dress and costume who come and pose for photos in front of the fashion brand shop windows like Salvator Ferragamo, Louis Vuitton and/or Gucci offering the sort of backdrop for romance more usually provided by the sea or the mountains. The women are not wearing Ferragamo Vara pumps’ with their distinctive bows, or toting Vuitton subtly monogrammed handbags. Continue reading

FREE PROFIT FOR MISS DIOR

MISSThe creative genius of Christian Dior spans the decades. A by-word for Avant-Garde and new beginnings, Dior today denotes a new take on femininity and a particular definition of elegance, at once simple and sophisticated, and always ahead of its time.

In 1947, Christian Dior begins to rewrite all the rules of elegance and creates a new, sensual figure: The New Look. “Make me a perfume that is the fragrance of love.” With these ambitious terms in mind, he formulated his desire to create the perfume that would add the finishing touch to his designs, a perfume embodying all Dior’s signature hallmarks: Miss Dior. THE V BY VUITTON

LV2The V, no less, features prominently in the fifth Haute Couture jewelry collection from Louis Vuitton on show at their Place Vendome location after the fashion week. Set designs from the Art Deco period, including an iconic Louis Vuitton case, set the scene for the collection, which found some of its inspiration in this period.

Old sketch books from the house, showing perfume bottles or a Trapeze artist in mid flight are also on show next to the high-finished jewels in diamonds and brilliant stones.

Cuff bracelets which were a favorite feature during the period is one item featured in the collection inspired by an avante-garde aesthetic from the time and the idea of women traveling and breaking free. Chunky rings are another.

For this house’s fifth high jewelry collection, an 87.92 Australian black opal is the cornerstone of the collection. Other stones include red Tanzanian spinel and Burmese sapphires.

GRANVILLE FROM DIOR

Villa “Les Rhumbs”, Christian Dior’s childhood home in Granville, is a Belle Epoque style 19th century clifftop villa overlooking the sea. It is the only “Musée de France” labeled French museum dedicated to a couturier and has been presented, for ten years already, Haute Couture garments on three floors.

The exhibit titled “The Legendary Images: Great Photographers and Dior” will be a tribute to the esteemed shutterbugs who have captured the storied maison’s couture and ready-to-wear designs over the years. By the numbers, there will be 200 images from 80 iconic photographers that encompass 60 years of design, alongside 60 couture gowns, and a handful of significant documents to round out the presentation that features designs by Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, John Galliano, and the most recent looks from Raf Simons and Kris Van Assche.

Among the selected photos featured in the exhibit: Patrick Demarchelier, who launched a Continue reading

DIOR READY TO HAUTE COUTURE

.
When the ready-to-wear means Haute Couture! When Dior has just reached the depth of the non-absolute creation. Zara and its prohibitive prices on the French market will pass through out Dior. Zara will become the Paramount ready to Haute Couture.

Absolute cynicism from LVMH to make us believe that Haute Couture is ready-to-wear and vice-versa. Last year, the collection was better. Unfortunately this year, it is pathetic, boring and without any creativity.

Copy-paste, Continue reading
