ALBEMARLE STREET

wang2Alexander Wang has opened his first European flagship – and largest flagship store worldwide so far – in London.

The designer, who just announced his departure from fashion house Balenciaga, told Vogue UK: “I always knew that London would be the first city that I would want to open a flagship in in Europe. It’s our largest European market and it’s one of my favourite cities in the world. I think that London has the best shopping in the world. There’s just so many options, so many great stores – I mean, Harrods is a mecca – you can buy anything there for anyone!”

The new flagship is located on Albemarle Street in the city’s upmarket yet fashionable Mayfair area, close to iconic Savile Row and Dover Street, where Dover Street Market, Acne and Victoria Beckham are located. BRITISH SCOTLAND

canalCelebrating a milestone decade of creating fearlessly, Gareth Pugh triumphantly marked the occasion with his return to London, and to the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Plunging the room into darkness, the show opened with a film projection of a lone woman bathed in eerie red light, the symbol of both love and war, in a film directed by long-time collaborator Ruth Hogben.

The footage showed a lone defiant muse as she coarsely hacked off her long blonde hair then, in another act of liberation, anointed herself smearing the red of Saint George’s cross over her face, arms and chest.

BURBERRY A BLANKET TURNOVER

BURREBERY
The brand’s monogrammed blanket ponchos that have really hit home, not only with street style photographers but also with customers.

That particular success was part of a solid, if geographically patchy, third quarter. For the three months leading up to December 31, Burberry brought in £604 million (about $917 million) in revenue, a 15 percent increase from the year before.

Its double-digit growth in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Africa was tempered somewhat by low single-digit gains in Hong Kong, which accounts for about 10 percent of global sales Burberry CFO Carol Fairweather said on the company’s quarterly earnings call.

TOM FORD MARRIES RICHARD BUCKLEY

Congratulations to Tom Ford and Richard Buckley, who have just confirmed that they were recently married. The pair were wed in top secret in America.

“I lost so many friends in college – I would say more than half of my closest friends. Richard, my partner of 27 years, had also gone through something also quite tough in his life. We are now married which is nice,” he said. “I know that was just made legal in the UK which is great; we were married in the States.”
The couple have been in a relationship for 27 years, after meeting at a fashion show when Buckley was the fashion editor at WWD.

They welcomed their first child, son Alexander “Jack” John Buckley Ford, in 2012, and live in London.
