MATHILDE, A LIFE BRUTALLY CUT SHORT

Mathilde Favier, a well-known figure in the fashion world and Dior’s Director of Public Relations, died on Monday, August 17, in a road accident in the Deux-Sèvres region of France. She was with her partner, producer Nicolas Altmayer, when their car collided with a heavy goods vehicle. An investigation will determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.

At Dior, Mathilde Favier was an indispensable figure. She was admired for her energy, her extensive network of contacts, and her talent. Yet, as is often the case in circles where power and appearances intersect, she was not universally liked. She had nevertheless built a remarkable career, moving from the press into fashion before becoming one of the most recognizable figures in the fashion house’s public relations world.

But the road knows neither Dior, nor fame, nor social status. It knows nothing of Dior. It does not distinguish the powerful from the anonymous. It moves forward, indifferent, and sometimes just a few seconds are enough for everyday life to be torn apart. An overtaking maneuver, a trajectory, a fraction of a second, and then… silence.

Perhaps that is what makes road accidents so terribly unjust. They give no warning. They do not ask whether we still have plans, children, friends to meet again, journeys to take, or appointments to keep. They simply interrupt a story that, only moments earlier, was continuing as normal.

One may have lived in the spotlight of fashion, mingled with the greatest names, and built an intense life, yet all it takes is a road and a few seconds for everything to come to a stop.

Behind the public figure, there remains simply the loss of a woman, a partner, a mother, a friend, whose life obviously could never be reduced to her name on the door of Dior. We extend our deepest condolences to her family.
