TOMMY HILFIGER REINVENTS THE PREPPY CLASSICS

The designer delved into his archives, not to dutifully resurrect the cult silhouettes of the 1990s, but to view them through a contemporary lens. The signatures of that era return, stripped of literal nostalgia and subjected to a process of reinterpretation that gives them a fresh relevance.

At a time when preppy and Americana dominate the fashion landscape, inspiration was hardly in short supply for Hilfiger. Yet rather than simply replaying a familiar repertoire of tried-and-tested classics, he shifted the emphasis with an audacity that speaks as much to longtime followers as to a new generation discovering these codes for the first time. Red, white and blue the unmistakable trio at the heart of his universe remain as an instantly recognisable signature. But the silhouettes have changed dramatically: looser, more relaxed, and at times deliberately unexpected.

That is where the collection finds its appeal: in the subtle disruption that transforms traditional preppy into something freer, less polished, almost nonchalant. The heritage is unmistakably present, but it never feels museum-bound. The 1990s are no longer an era to be faithfully reproduced; they have become raw material to be reshaped.
