VUITTON SHANGHAI CHINA

Louis Vuitton presented Nicolas Ghesquière’s Pre-Fall 2024 Women’s Collection during the Voyager Revealed fashion show at the Long Museum West Bund in Shanghai, Sun Yitian, a Beijing-based artist known for her paintings of blown-up animals, was introduced to Ghesquière, artistic director of Vuitton’s women’s collections since 2013.

Sun’s toy animal collection included a pink rabbit, a yellow duck, a spotted dog, a leopard, a swan, and more, which appeared on more than 90 products, from handbags to ready-to-wear. In Ghesquière’s Vuitton playbook, bubble dresses, leather jackets with exaggerated shoulders, and sporty cocoon coats became familiar codes.

Taking inspiration from the 50 shades of black he saw on the streets of Chengdu, Ghesquière recreated the drama with a wide-shouldered biker vest paired with black leggings.

In recognition of Ghesquière’s 10-year tenure at Vuitton, guests including Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Connelly, Regina King, Jackson Wang, Liu Yifei and Zhou Dongyu gave him a standing ovation. The location in Shanghai reflects the brand’s deep appreciation for Chinese culture, but it also reaffirms its global eminence in fashion and luxury.
