RACHEL SCOTT QUEEN OF FASHION

It was beneath the vaulted halls of the American Museum of Natural History, on Monday night, that Rachel Scott once again sent shockwaves through New York’s fashion elite. The designer behind Diotima was crowned American Womenswear Designer of the Year by the CFDA, a trophy presented by Lupita Nyong’o, whose elegance needs no introduction.

For the Jamaican-born designer, it isn’t a first: she had already taken home this top prize in 2024. This year, though, the competition was not lacking in flair. Up against her were Catherine Holstein for Khaite, the ever-present Michael Kors, Tory Burch, and Wes Gordon, at the helm of Carolina Herrera. A formidable lineup, and yet she emerged victorious.

Her secret? A balancing act as subtle as it is masterful. At Diotima, Rachel Scott weaves together Jamaican artisanal know-how, handed down through generations, with the rigor of sharply cut New York and European tailoring. A dialogue between heritage and modernity that has become the signature of her label.

The CFDA, in fact, spotted her early on: in 2024, she also received the Emerging Designer of the Year award. A meteoric rise, now crowned by a second major role: creative director of Proenza Schouler. Two hats, twice the success.
