PAVLOVSKY EXITS CHANEL BOARD
Bruno Pavlovsky has resigned from the board of directors of Chanel Limited, which is now a British company. However, Bruno, as executives call him, remains president of fashion at Chanel. It’s a shame for the brand, given the failure of its designers in recent years.
This decision marks the culmination of the board’s evolution toward a composition of independent directors, bringing diverse external expertise and perspectives, while maintaining executive representation through the global executive chairman and the global chief executive officer.
Pavlovsky joined Chanel in 1990 after working at the consulting firm Deloitte, and became president of Chanel’s fashion division in 2004. He is also chairman of the swimwear brand Eres, which is owned by Chanel.
Aged 63, he was appointed head of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM), the governing body of French fashion, in 2022, and was re-elected to that post in July. Which goes to show that controlling all of French fashion is a goal for the billionaire brothers, who are only interested in racehorses.
His resignation from the board is the latest step in a succession plan put in place five years ago by the Wertheimer family, owners of Chanel. Directors are now expected to contribute to strategic thinking, and Tony Estanguet is already committed to Dior. But there is still someone ignorant of fashion out there for the job, with 900,000 euros a year on the table.
